We use your information to:
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of our contract with you (to provide the Services); your consent (for optional cookies, marketing, and any processing of a child’s data via a parent/guardian); our legitimate interests (to secure, improve, and promote the Services, balanced against your rights); and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out.
We and our partners use cookies, local storage, session storage, pixels, and software development kits (SDKs) to keep you logged in, remember preferences, measure and improve performance, and – where you allow it – support advertising.
Essential cookies are required for the Services to function. Non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising) are used only where required by law with your consent, which you can give or withdraw through our cookie banner or settings. In the EEA and UK, non-essential cookies are set only after you opt in. You can also control cookies through your browser settings, though blocking some cookies may affect functionality.
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share personal information only in the following circumstances and only with the categories of recipients below:
We are based in India and may process your information in India and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Where we transfer personal data across borders – including out of the EEA/UK – we use appropriate safeguards required by law, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or transfers to countries recognised as providing adequate protection, and we take steps to ensure your data remains protected. A copy of the relevant safeguards can be requested at hello@captainside.com.
We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy – typically for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period (ordinarily within 90 days), except where we must retain certain data to comply with legal, tax, security, or fraud-prevention obligations, or to resolve disputes. Backup copies are deleted on a rolling schedule.
CaptainSide is open to a general audience and we do not operate a strict age gate, so minors do use the Services. We take the following approach to protect them:
We do not serve targeted or behavioural advertising to users we know to be minors, and we do not knowingly sell or “share” a minor’s personal information. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us personal data without the required consent, contact us at hello@captainside.com and we will verify and delete it.
We use technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL), access controls, and hashed password storage. Payment data is handled by PCI-compliant processors. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and will notify you and the relevant authorities of a data breach where required by law.
Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights over your personal information: to access it, correct it, delete it, receive a portable copy, object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. To exercise any right, email hello@captainside.com or use the in-app privacy settings. We will verify your identity and respond within the timeframe required by the applicable law.
In addition to the rights above, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office). We would appreciate the chance to address your concerns first.
California residents have the right to know, access, correct, and delete personal information, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information and of certain targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. Where our advertising settings involve “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising, you can opt out via “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” in our footer or by a Global Privacy Control signal. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. The categories of personal information we collect are set out below.
