This Cookie Policy explains how CaptainSide Esports Pvt. Ltd. (“CaptainSide,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on captainside.com and our apps (the “Services”). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal information more generally.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We also use related technologies that work in a similar way:
Cookies: small files stored by your browser, used to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and measure how the Services are used.
Local storage / session storage: browser storage that holds data on your device with a larger capacity than cookies.
Pixels, tags and SDKs: small pieces of code (including through Google Tag Manager) that load other tools and help measure activity.
In this policy we refer to all of these simply as “cookies.”
We group cookies into four categories. Only the first is exempt from consent; the other three are “non-essential” and, for users in the EEA and UK, load only after you opt in (see Section 4).
| Category | What it does | Consent needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Enables core functions: signing in, keeping your session, security, load balancing, and remembering your cookie choices. The Services cannot work without these. | No |
| Functional | Remembers your preferences (e.g. language, volume, playback quality) to improve your experience. | Yes |
| Analytics / performance | Helps us understand how people use the Services so we can improve them (e.g. Microsoft Clarity, PostHog). | Yes |
| Advertising / targeting | Used to measure or personalise advertising and marketing. | Yes |
The list below reflects the main tools on CaptainSide. Exact cookie names and durations can change as tools update, and we keep this list current.
| Tool / cookie | Provider | Purpose | Category | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Session / auth cookie | CaptainSide (first-party) | Keeps you signed in and secures your session | Strictly necessary | Session / short-lived |
| Security / CSRF token | CaptainSide (first-party) | Protects against cross-site request forgery | Strictly necessary | Session |
| Consent preference cookie | CaptainSide / CMP | Remembers your cookie choices | Strictly necessary | 6–12 months |
| Device identifier cookie | CaptainSide (first-party) | Identifies your device across visits for analytics | Analytics (non-essential) | 2 years |
| Google Tag Manager | Loads and manages other tags/scripts | Depends on tags it loads* | n/a (container) | |
| Microsoft Clarity | Microsoft | Analytics and session replay (mouse, clicks, scroll) | Analytics (non-essential) | Up to 1 year |
| PostHog | PostHog | Product analytics and event tracking | Analytics (non-essential) | Up to 1 year |
* Google Tag Manager itself sets no tracking cookies, but it must be configured so the non-essential tags it loads (Clarity, PostHog, the device cookie, any ad tags) fire only after consent.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, non-essential cookies are governed by the GDPR together with the ePrivacy rules (and, in the UK, PECR). This means:
Opt-in first. Non-essential cookies do not load until you actively accept them. Simply continuing to browse is not consent.
Reject is as easy as Accept. Our banner offers a “Reject all” option that is as prominent as “Accept all.”
Granular control. You can accept or refuse each category (functional, analytics, advertising) separately. Strictly necessary cookies are always on and cannot be switched off.
No pre-ticked boxes. Every non-essential category is off by default.
Withdraw anytime. You can change your choices whenever you like using the “Cookie settings” link in our footer — withdrawing is as easy as giving consent.
Outside the EEA/UK, we honour recognised opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control and the controls described in Section 6 and in our Privacy Policy.
Microsoft Clarity can record how you interact with a page — mouse movement, clicks, and scrolling — to produce anonymised session replays and heatmaps. Because this is more detailed than basic analytics, we treat it as non-essential, load it only with your consent, and enable Clarity’s masking so that text you type (such as passwords or messages) is not captured. Data is processed by Microsoft as described in its privacy documentation.
On CaptainSide: use the cookie banner or the “Cookie settings” link in the footer to review or change your choices at any time.
In your browser: most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the Services from working.
Opt-out tools: you can also use browser privacy signals like Global Privacy Control, and provider opt-outs where offered.
Some cookies are set by third parties who process data under their own privacy terms. Where you consent to their cookies, their handling of your data is also governed by their policies:
Google (Tag Manager) — policies.google.com/privacy
Microsoft (Clarity) — privacy.microsoft.com
PostHog — posthog.com/privacy
We may update this Cookie Policy as our tools or the law change. We will post the updated version here with a new “Last updated” date and, where required, ask for your consent again.
